Redefining furniture for functional living and living enjoyment
Design often begins with a simple thought, a probing question or an insightful observation.
The observation for Cantina Design was that wine is stored either in cheap ugly modular racks or costly tailor made display cabinets or rooms with little in-between for wine lovers with limited space.
And so the idea for Ottavio was formed.
Elegant furniture designed to display, store and organise wine for the many wine lovers who don’t have underground wine cantina’s or bespoke wine rooms.
And since 2023 that’s been our focus – designing an elegant form and refining it to be as pure and functional as possible, made to the highest quality standards in Melbourne, Australia.
About the designer
Born in Canberra, Yuri is a Ukrainian-Australian designer whose design approach comes from the Ukrainian and European food and lifestyle focused culture that’s all about simple living, combined with his upbringing and exposure to the metal production process of his father’s sheetmetal factory in the city outskirts.
Yuri formalised his design skills with a Bachelor of Industrial Design and then refined and developed them further with a Masters at Politecnico di Milano in Italy.
This created a materially curious and inventive approach to design and an honest, modern and purposeful expression of form.
Cantina draws on the same materials used in his father’s factory – metal, and channels and transforms that focus on lifestyle and simplicity into material form making every Cantina piece the truest expression of form and functionality. This produces a timeless elegance and modernist character.
Every design piece is a love letter to European culture and family which is what we live for.
